dc.description.abstractThe study sought to investigate the influence of ICTs in Competency Based Education in primary schools in Kajiado North Sub - County. The study objectives were to examine the influence of the availability of ICT resources on Competency Based Education implementation in primary schools in Kajiado North Sub- County, to establish the influence of teachers training on ICT Competency Based Education implementation and to examine the influence of administrative support in integrating ICT in teaching and learning on Competency Based Education Implementation, and finally to determine the influence of ICT integration towards the Competency Based Education Implementation in primary schools in Kajiado North Sub - County, Kajiado County , Kenya. The study was guided by the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The study targeted 93 head teachers and 876 teachers across the 93 primary schools. The 93 primary schools have 2797 grade 9 nine learners. The 9 head teachers, 88 teachers and 280 learners was the sample size calculated by the researcher out of the target population as adequate for dependable results for interview and questionnaires respectively. In objective one, findings indicated a high level of Availability of ICT Resources (Aggregate Mean=3.355, SD=0.798) in public primary schools in Kajiado North Sub- County. The Pearson's correlation analysis results indicate existence of a strong significant positive linear relationship between availability of ICT resources and Competency Based Education implementation in primary schools in Kajiado North Sub-County at a correlational coefficient r= 0.659*, P Value 0.017<0.05. In objective two, findings indicated a moderate level of Teachers’ ICT Literacy (Aggregate Mean=3.011 0, SD=0.779) in public primary schools in Kajiado North Sub-County. The Pearson's correlation analysis results indicate existence of an average/medium significant positive linear relationship between teachers’ ICT literacy and Competency Based Education implementation in primary schools in Kajiado North Sub- County, at a correlational coefficient r= 0.439*, P Value 0.041<0.05. In objective three, findings indicated a moderate level of administrative support in ICT (Aggregate Mean=2.818, S. D=0.792) in public primary schools in Kajiado North Sub-County. The Pearson's correlation analysis results indicate existence of a very strong significant positive linear relationship between administrative support in ICT and Competency Based Education implementation in primary schools in Kajiado North Sub-County, at a correlational coefficient r= 0.831**, P Value 0.000<0.01. In objective four, the multiple regression analysis results indicate an adjusted R square of 0.682 which implies that ICT integration influence Competency Based Education implementation in primary schools Kajiado North Sub-County by 68.2%. Based on the findings, it was recommended that; The school administration together with other administrators in the education sector they should provide ICT resources such as computers, reliable internet, reliable electricity and other resources to the primary schools for better Competency Based Education implementation. The education office at Kajiado North Sub-County together with Kajiado county should invest more on teachers’ ICT literacy by encouraging and sponsoring more teacher to attend ICT organized seminars and enrolling in ICT related short courses. By having more teachers who are literate in ICT will lead to improvement in implementation of the Competency Based Education in primary schools.en_US
